Ancient mariners navigated by the stars, but that method didn't work during the day or on cloudy nights, and so it was unsafe to voyage far from land.
The Chinese invented the first compass sometime between the 9th and 11th century.
The compass enabled mariners to navigate safely far from land, increasing sea trade and contributing to the Age of Discovery.

3⃣ قطب نما

دریانوردان باستان از طریق ستارگان راه خود را پیدا می کردند، اما آن روش در طول روز یا شبهای ابری عمل نمی کرد، و لذا دور شدن تا فواصلی بعید از خشکی ناامن بود.
چینی ها اولین قطب نما را زمانی بین قرن 9 و 11 میلادی اختراع نمودند.
قطب نما دریانوردان را قادر ساخت تا بصورت امنی تا فواصل دورتری از خشکی مسیریابی کنند، که تجارت دریایی را افزایش داد و سهم بزرگی در عصر اکتشافات ایفا نمود.
